Job Description:

The Youth Career Coach Affiliate One-Stop provides individualized intake and case management services for the WIOA Youth program.  Their responsibilities include providing individual guidance to assist the youth with overcoming barriers preventing them from obtaining a High School Diploma, a G.E.D. or obtaining competitive employment.  They will interact with the youth as needed, to encourage healthy, adaptive behavior, establish clear expectations, set and enforce consequences for disruptive behavior, assist with the instruction of youth on daily living skills and work readiness subjects.  The Youth Career Coach Affiliate One-Stop will act as a positive role model.  The position is located in the Affiliate One-Stop, a service of Goodwill of Southern Nevada, Inc.

  1. Customer Service
    1. Effectively communicate the enrollment, job search and job placement process.
    2. Handle external communication with local employers through phone, email, etc.
    3. Collect data regarding status of employment and educational status as well as updating necessary spreadsheets and data bases;
    4. Contact scheduled participants through correspondence or by telephone meeting all scheduled deadlines per Grant;
    5. Assist in the Affiliate One-Stop as the receptionist daily or when receptionist is out sick or on vacation;
    6. Handle internal communication with the Affiliate One-Stop Manager.
    7. Represent Goodwill at Job Fairs and other special events.
    8. Perform other related duties as assigned 
  2. Program Support
    1. Maintain complete and accurate case notes, employment and educational plans, records and files (hard and electronic).
    2. Actively supervise and interact with individuals or groups of youths.
    3. Facilitate activities as needed.
    4. Assist with the STEM program.
    5. Prepare weekly qualitative and quantitative productivity reports.
    6. Meet goals set for the department.
    7. Participate in departmental and agency meetings.
    8. Maintain office equipment and conduct trouble-shooting.
    9. Ensure proper levels of office supplies.
    10. Participate in outreach activities during regular business hours, some evenings and occasional weekends. 
  3. Employment and Educational Assistance
    1. Gather and share information about the local job market.
    2. Provide educational, employment and career counseling to assist participants in developing an individual Service Strategy that outlines their educational or employment action plan; identify appropriate short and long term employment objectives; map out strategies for reaching educational/employment objectives; provide corresponding job development; and support the participant throughout the program.
    3. Provide job readiness and soft skills training in an individual or group setting (i.e., resume development, cover letter writing, interviewing skills and techniques, networking, life skills, etc.).
    4. Assist job seekers with completing paper and online job applications.
    5. Coordinate Work Experience (WEX) opportunities and On the Job Trainings (OJT) with the Job Developer for program participants.
    6. Develop job leads and refer job seekers to local employers.
    7. Help participants to obtain pre-employment documents (i.e., work permits, work cards, sheriff’s cards, health cards).
    8. Follow-up with participants to determine their status and to see how we can continue to support them after exiting the program.
    9. Provide Basic and Basic Plus Services to non-WIOA grant participants.
    10. Follow-up with employers concerning referrals to determine placements.

Job Requirements:

  • Prefer a dynamic enthusiastic person with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, patience, diplomacy, and high level of customer service skills required. 
  • Minimum two years of demonstrated experience in employment counseling, career counseling, job development and placement. Experience working with persons who have barriers to employment from various socio-economic, professional and ethnic backgrounds preferred.  Barriers to employment may include having low income, limited language skills, limited education and felonies. 
  • Bachelors of Arts degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills and ability/willingness to work with economically and culturally diverse clientele required.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team with ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and outstanding follow-up skills required.
